Hopa Hemsin‘s sub-culture subsists at
peace with itself, despite struggling on every level against the ruling
hierarchal culture responsible for the disappearance of local cultures
and languages. Despite the effects of technological advances, the Hemsin
people hold on to their traditional way of life, having chosen a mode
of life in accordance with the seasons. They have adopted a modest way
of living and kept in tune with the rhythm of nature. Whilst struggling
to preserve its way of life and seeking refuge in the bosom of nature,
this only slightly religious society on the East coast of the Black Sea
is unhappy with the results but struggles on.
